Dear Church Family,

A recent song by the group Live states:

"I don't need no one to tell me about heaven,
I just look at my daughter and I believe.
I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth,
I can see the sunset and I perceive."*

We have all echoed similar sentiments. You can look at the sky and know that God exists. You can see how the seasons function and know that God controls order. The Bible even expresses this in a number of passages but none explain it as well as Psalm 19:

"The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard."
Psalm 19:1-3.

God has left His witness in creation. We can appreciate His handiwork and be inspired, but this witness is incomplete. It is a very vague impression of who He is. For us to truly attain intimacy with Him, we need a special revelation, one that gives us more details. Psalm 19 goes onto say:

"The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;"
Psalm 19:7

He gave us His special revelation (a written account). Too often, we ignore the special revelation of God, and are too easily contented with the general revelation. The sunset is comforting. The change of seasons is invigorating. The ocean is awe-inspiring. But only the Scriptures tell us fully how much that He loves us and how He has, does and will show that love. Don't settle with just owning a Bible. Open it, read it, and let Him speak to you through it.

God Bless You,

Pastor Scott
